Return to Haifa (1983) Screening | CLOSING: Fictioning Palestine

The exhibition Fictioning Palestine closes on Sunday 28th, yet we organised a screening for you a day before. On Saturday 27th there will be a screening of one of the exhibited films RETURN TO HAIFA (1982)

The film tells the story of a Palestinian couple who return to Haifa decades after their displacement during the Nakba (1948) in search for their old home. This is the first instance that the exodus was reenacted.

Directed by Kassem Hawal and based on Ghassan Kanafani’s novel Returning to Haifa, the film stands as the first Palestinian-produced fiction film.
